Muslim Marriage through a matrimonial website!

A major topic of discussion when it comes to Muslim Marriages is the concept of marriage through matrimonial websites and whether it is a correct way to go about for a man and a woman to get married through one of these.  Many put forward their argument that it is not correct as it is the same as dating, only not done face to face. Whereas many agree that it is indeed a halal way to get a man and woman married, who otherwise have been facing difficulty in doing so.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) ordained that “Marriage completes half your faith so let Allah ask you about the remaining half”. Allah has asked us to get married in the Quran if we find a match and if we can afford it, for marriage keeps us away from zina and other forms of haram that we are less likely to fall for is we are married. For those who cannot get married Allah has asked them to fast for fasting diminishes the needs. However, we all believe that considering that marriage is a sunnah, we should all get a chance to carry out the act.

They say marriages are made in heaven. And indeed Allah has ordained a life partner for us. Just like we struggle to get the various aspects of our lives in order, our schooling, our college, our university, our jobs, we work hard to excel at all of them so why should marriage, that which completes half your faith, be any different? Muslim matrimonial websites are an excellent way to work towards getting married in a Shariah compliant way.

As long as Muslim matrimonial websites operate according to the principles of Islam, there is no reason that an unmarried lady or man cannot use it to find themselves a worthwhile partner.  However, matrimonial websites should know where to draw the line. For example: The Holy Prophet (PBUH) advised for the girl and the boy to look at each other before they get married. This does not mean that the matrimonial website allows all ladies and men to browse through all the pictures at their own free will. It means that once the initial level of communication has taken place between both the parties and both have positive responses of interest in each other, only then should they reveal the picture with consent. This restriction should be put on all matrimonial websites.

Matrimonial websites are also an excellent source of information for Muslims living in western countries like America and UK and for converts to Islam who have no other sources or means to find themselves partners. Due to lack of suitable Muslim suitors in the country matching their faith they turn to matrimonial websites to fulfill their wish, again, in a shariah compliant way.

Not only for the individuals seeking to get married themselves, matrimonial websites are also quite useful for the single lady or man’s families, who have been assigned the responsibility to look for a suitable husband or wife for their daughters and sons. This makes it exceptionally easy for both the families to move ahead with their proposals or sympathies, whatever the case may be.

At the end of the day, Muslim matrimonial websites are doing a service to you, helping you fulfill half your deen and the sunnah.  Embrace the help with open arms. Allah knows best!
